Supervisors of Midwives
Supervisors of Midwives (SoM) are experienced midwives who have specialist training. Their role is to support other midwives and to ensure you and your baby both receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place, given by the right person.
SoMs can help by:
- Ensuring midwives across the maternity unit are competent and safe to practice
- Supporting and advising you on choices within your care plan such as place of birth
- Promoting positive communication between you and your midwife
You can get in touch with a SoM 24 hours a day via the hospital switchboard on 020 8560 2121. You can also email the team or find out more on the Nursing and Midwifery Council website.
